Back at London
A place I wanted to visit again but as soon as I touched down, I became overwhelmed with the bustling city life that’s familiar to home.
London has always been a place where people come to visit and photograph, and many photographers I follow on social media captured some of their great pictures there. The idea of London excites me. I had hope for bright sunny days while I was there, to see the patterns unfold through lights and shadows, but unfortunately I was left disappointed because the weather was most of the time overcast and gloomy.
I couldn’t put the ideas I had in my head to picture, and that made me put the camera down, feeling unmotivated to snap anything. I did a lot of walking, hoping the weather would change in the day, but it didn’t happen as I’d hope. At the end of each day, it felt like I didn’t achieved anything meaningful.
It seemed like the only reason I actually took pictures was because I know I won’t be coming back here any time soon, as London’s a city 14 hours flight away from where I lived. I found myself holding closely to that thought when I’m out and about.
At the end of each day, as I reviewed the little pictures that I took, I realised that the pictures weren’t as bad as I thought they’d be. It just wasn’t many in quantity.
When light was absent, I played with framing and negative space. When light was present, I chased after it. And reflections came in handy each time I’m bored seeing shoppers all around.
All in all, I really have a love-hate feeling towards this city. I’ve been here twice and both visits reminded me closely of Singapore due to the high volume of people. Nevertheless, I do want to come here again some day for holiday and better photo opportunities. Hopefully during my next visit, London’s all bright and sunny. For now, here’s my collection of London.
