Gardens by the Bay
What better way to spend time alone than to take yourself on a solo date to an attraction place. It’s been years since I visited Gardens by the Bay and I saw online that they are running an exhibition on the Impressions of Monet: The Experience. It looked interesting, so I decided to check it out.
As I reached the gardens, there were some familiarity to the place. I thought of the times I worked there after finishing secondary school and during polytechnic days. The outdoor gardens were still as pleasant to walk through and as I entered the conservatories, I could see the main exhibitions remained, and were really impressed at the seasonal ones! There were lots to see and you could easily spend a lot of time there. Being local, I get to enjoy special rates at the gardens. I paid $35 for entry to both conservatories, and the Monet exhibition was included too.
The Monet exhibition really reignited my love for art. In recent years, I found myself growing fonder of art, be it paintings, drawings, abstract works, or other forms. I mean, I had always appreciated art since young, but never actually pursue it due to lack of skills. Over the past few years, since I took up photography, it has allowed me to explore this interest of mine.
The exhibition not only showcased Monet and his art pieces but also other Impressionist artists and their work. I find them all inspiring and could really use a thing or more in photography.
I especially like that the main idea of Impressionism focuses on capturing landscapes, things, or people as they appeared at a certain moment in time. I find that closely related to photography because when we capture a picture, somehow it cannot be recreated exactly as it appeared. The person that walked by a scene, wouldn’t the same as the next person that’s about to come by. A scene can also be perceived differently by different people. These simple factors are reasons why art is so unique and subjective to each individual.
Having spent time by myself, I’ve come to really enjoy being alone. I get to do what I love, take all the time I need, and wander wherever I want. I’m glad I took up photography - it feels like a quiet activity in a rowdy world, like I’m in my own bubble wandering around, still a part of the chaos externally, but internally, I’m in my own little world.
Through photography, I get to be my creative self, even though I’m not that creative to begin with. I definitely discovered abilities I never knew I could achieve. Even as an adult, there are plenty for us to learn and pick up.
To more learning experiences.
Till then,
Amirah
